All Natural Dog Food

Has you ever had your vet recommend that you put your dog on a low residue dog food?

I took my 11 week old pup to the vet today and they recommended I put him on Iam’s Low Residue Puppy dog food.
He has been having some problems with very soft stool and diarrhea. They think perhaps that he has a sensitive GI track and it is not absorbing the nutrients in his dog food.
I have been feeding him "California Natural Lamb and Rice food for Puppies" since his last bout of diarrhea almost a month ago. He was doing great on it but for some reason it started up again a few days ago and Pepto (they told me to give him some yesterday) did not really help very much.
The only problem with the Iam’s is that it is extremely expensive. They only make an 8 lb. bag in the puppy formula and it was over .50 a pound. There is no way I can continue to feed him that after this first bag. The "California Natural" is about .50 per pound for a large bag and it is a good quality food.
Does anyone know of any other dog food that may help ease GI irritation that is less expensive?
I want to give him the best but I can’t afford to feed him the Iam’s forever.
Let me know if you have any suggestions. Or if your dog has had to be on the Iam’s before and for how long. The vets said he may not have to be on it permanently, but at this point there is no way to tell. We have to wait and see.
Thank you!

what are some low residue foods for dogs.not necessarally found in comercially bought dog foods?

vomiting dog was told by vet to consume a low residue diet for awhile. I don’t want to run out and buy food for just a couple of days and would rather give him people food that is low residue.

Looking for a GOOD dog food for a 9yr.old over weight basset that has been eating Eukanuba Low Residue.?

Our 9yr old over weight basset has been eating Eukanuba Low Residue canned and dry food for 2 yrs.She was put on this food by the Vet to help control her weight. This product’s production is very inconsistant in moisture. Sometimes the canned is VERY dry and sometimes OK. We have to buy this food from our Vet. and eventhough she will eat it, we have doubts about it’s nutritional value, not to mention the inconvience and over-price. Since she was put on this food many new dog foods have come on the market. We think that some, or at least one ,of them would surpass her present food in consistancy and nutritional value. We just don’t know which one to consider. Her stomach is sensitive and she does have minor skin issues.Remember that she has a weight problem. We have to use both canned and dry mixed together since feeding her only dry after so many years isn’t an option. This is serious stuff, so please send only serious answers please.
She has hypothyroidism(under active) and is given thyrosin 2xs a day. Sensitive stomach- vomiting bile when her stomach is empty for too long. Treatment for that is metacloprimide2xs a day before meals and a Tums 3xs a day.
She’s already been through the Science Diet WDand RD. Didn’t work for weight loss and her skin was a real mess! Sores and very dry.Science Diet isn’t a choice.

Low residdue dog food?

My dog’s stomach is sensitve, and hge can only eat low residue food. he eats iams low reisdue food we get from the vet but the vet said its not really good for him. We also found out iams is a cruel dog food comapany in a magazine ( the torture tesating dogs…..its horriblei hate it) but do you know any dog food brands that have low residue natural food besides iams and eukanuba.

Suggestions for dog with chronic digestive problems (diarrhea)?

She has only eaten high-quality food. I started her with Canidae, then I switched to California Natural since that has fewer ingredients and is therefore supposed to be easier on dogs’ stomachs, but the problem didn’t go away. Then I stopped giving her treats (so that the California Natural was the ONLY thing she was eating), but that didn’t help. I’ve had a few different vets check her out, and she is otherwise completely healthy. (No parasites or anything like that.) Her current vet wants to put her on Eukanaba Low Residue or Hill’s Prescription Diet i/d, but I don’t consider either of those to be good quality food. And I’m not prepared to try raw food diets or anything extreme like that. The next step would be expensive tests (bloodwork, x-rays, etc.). Does anybody have any other suggestions? Help!

Best Treats for dog who always has diarrhea?

I have had my 7 month old Jack Russell since she was 6wks old. She has had diarrhea since we have owned her and have spent lots of money on vet bills trying to find the root of the problem. Turns out she will have diarrhea the rest of her life due to an improperly developed small/large intestine. She is also on a diet of Low Residue by Eukanuba.

Due to her problem I am limited to the types of treats I can give her because they make it worse. I have tried Science Diet Jerky Treats, Iams and Eukanuba, Busy Bones, Dingos, Jumbones, etc. All make her sick. Does anyone have any idea of some treats homemade/store/or online that she might be able to eat without her diarrhea getting worse?
